This sculpture of Vietnam War articles paper mached onto a barbed-wire skeleton was titled “POW/MIA”. I literally bled for this piece.
It won grand champion at the Freeborn County 4H art show and went on to take the top spot at the Minnesota State Fair as well.
To steal a title from one of my favorite authors, let’s call this photo, “Portrait of the artist as a young man”. This photo would have occurred in the summer of 1991 at the age of 17. A strange mix of pop and militarism.
