The process of building the body to peak performance begins with destroying it.

I feel quite fortunate to have a personal trainer while working towards my first half marathon. My trainer is glad to have someone finally listening to the strategy that has helped him to win marathons and triathlons.

Here is the strategy;

This is an approximation. Actual routine is determined by my progress. Of which…

He also taught me about heart rates and workout zones. To do this properly he said I had to have a heart rate monitor. So I got one.

He was right! With just a couple of workouts I have gathered enough data to have a much better understanding of what my workouts do for me and to me.

So I go from a casual runner who ran 5 miles a day every day to having a 1 minute routine followed by a couple of days of rest. It sounds bizarre. But that one intense workout shreds my muscles and the rest period rebuilds them stronger.

Truthfully, I am excited and scared.
