There is a break just north of Cannon Beach called Indian Beach. The surfers usually call it Indian Head or just Indian.

On the really good days, especially during the cold seasons, the surf gets progressively better the farther north one goes. Problem: At the north end of the break is a rip. The better the day, the stronger the rip.

If you get caught, don’t know what to do, and panic, you might just have a very expensive Coast Guard helicopter ride in your future. Every Oregon surfer who regularly hits Indian Head probably has their story of the time they got too far north and almost dragged out.
