We wanted a drill chuck to make full use of the Shopsmith’s functionality.

The Shopsmith has a 5/8″ stem on the lathe head. Not a common size for drill chucks. Used ones seemed fairly cheap on ebay. Looked into new and really didn’t like the pricing.

Happened to have a spare Jacobs chuck with 1/2-20 fitment. Made a 5/8″ mandrel and now have a brand new and top of the line drill chuck.
